The Webster's Ninth New Collegiate dictionary tells us that the
definition of improvisation is 'the act or art of improvising'. Clearly,
this isn't very helpful, until you look up 'improvising', which reads:
- to compose, recite, play or sing extemporaneously (if you
don't know what extemporaneously means, you can look it up)
- to make, invent or arrange offhand
- to fabricate out of what is conveniently on hand
The Crew, however believes
improvisation is simply performance based entirely on audience
suggestion, where anything could happen (but I think they might be making
that up on the spot - you can never tell with these improvisers). If
you're still unclear about what impro is, you'll simply have to come and
see us in action!
Janelle has been a member of Melbourne's longest-running (and arguably
best looking) improvisational comedy group, The Crew since October 2002.
The Crew is made up of extremely talented performers, most of whom are
actors and/or comedians.
The Crew have performed to appreciative audiences as part of Melbourne
Comedy Festivals, Melbourne Fringe Festivals and most recently at the
Adelaide Fringe Festival. In addition to this, we perform our regular
Sunday show - Impro Sundae, at the Comic's Lounge. This is
longest-running impro show in Melbourne. Yeah, Baby.
The Crew recently recorded the first season of 'Instant T.V.' for
Channel 31, which was screened earlier this year and the feedback from
viewers was so positive that we filmed Season Two during the 2004 Comedy
Festival. So watch out for us on 31 (oh, and if you do actually get
Channel 31 - can you please tape it for me?).
So come along and check The Crew out - we can absolutely guarantee
that you'll never see the same show twice - the players, games, and
naturally, suggestions from the audience are constantly changing, and
therefore - so is the show!
The Crew also run weekly improvisation workshops for newcomers and
intermediates. To find out more about these and The Crew in general,
check out our website thecrew.com.au.
